Optimize the Lightroom Catalog

I have been using Lightroom for a long time and recently I found that things were getting really sluggish. Slow loading of images. Switching between the Library and Develop modules was taking ages!

It was time to optimize the Lightroom Catalog.

Start by selecting Catalog Settings under the main Lightroom Menu.

Then select the General tab. At the bottom of the box you will see Relaunch and Optimize. Lightroom will optimize the library and will then restart. The difference in performance can be quite dramatic.
