Lightroom Beta 2 Search and Filter Tools
Lightroom beta 2 brings
considerable improvements to filtering and and image
searching.
To bring up the Filter options from the Library
Module select Show Filter View from
Lightrooms' View menu or press the ' \ '
shortcut key.
You will then see a resizable Filter selection menu.
The results of any of the filters which follow will
depend on what you have selected as your starting
point in the Library Module side panels. i.e
selecting All Photographs in the Catalog Panel will
obviously allow you to filter on the whole catalog.
The basic operation is simple and easy to use.
There are three filter modes.
The first, Text, allows you to enter a text
search term.
The second,
Refine, will allow you to further target
your search by using combinations of the familiar
flag, star ratings, color flags etc.
Finally Metadata, allows you to set a
Metadata filter on any one of four displayed columns.
Images are filtered according to your column heading
choices. You can turn them all off, if you want, or
select None to use less than the full four
column filters. You can further target the metadata
search by adding the Text and Refine options as
above.
Simple to use and very
powerful. I look forward to using this capability in
the final version.

Lightroom Beta 2 - Second Monitor and Smart Collections
You should. Here are two good reasons...
Secondary Display
The new secondary display option is just what I have been waiting for. If you have second display you will have the option to show the Grid view, to use the loupe, to compare images and to survey (select the best pick).
Smart Collections
I used Aperture for a while, mainly because I could
produce the equivalent of Lightrooms' new Smart
Collections.
A breeze to use. When you click the plus sign you are
offered the choice of either a normal or a smart
collection.
Once you have selected
Smart Collection you can then define the rules. Mac
users will be very familiar with this as it is
similar to other iTunes like smart applications.
Just what I have been
waiting for.
Keep in mind this is a beta and things can and
probably will change before the final release.

Lightroom 1.3 Available from the Adobe site
I recommend you use the 'Try' option rather than the
update as for now the update link takes you to a 1.1
update!
The update fixes the following:
- New camera file formats
- Leopard Printing - also compatibilty with Leopard 10.5.1
- Printing with the native resolution option enabled no longer sets the wrong dimension for portrait oriented images
- Import dialog now offers the option to render 1:1 previews as part of the import process
- Enhanced export dialog layout
- A Lightroom Preview Export SDK for developers to create and distribute Export Plug-ins
Camera Raw 4.3 has also been released.
I won't go into any detail as there is an excellent review at Ian Lyons Computer Darkroom site

Lightroom Tip - Using Custom Text in Slideshows
The Edit selection from
the drop-down dialog box allows you to build up any
combinations of the above. You can have as many of
these text boxes as you like and they can be
positioned anywhere in the frame or image surround.
I like to place a Caption text field in the lower
right which changes as the individual images are
viewed. See below

helps you.

Epson R1800 Leopard Drivers now Available
After a very smooth upgrade to Leopard I found there were no drivers. All printing work stopped.
Now it's fixed and they are working fine.
